| Bubbling from Panther Meadows high on Mt. Shasta, the McCloud births from numerous glacial springs creeping through rocks and steep canyon walls, as it cascades through the forest to Shasta Lake. This could be the most beautiful environment you have ever fished. Now let us talk about the fish. 8 to 14 inch world renowned, native Rainbow Trout thrive in this river, and are frequently caught. Big rainbows reside here too, up to 25 plus inches. About 5% of the fish population is made up of resident brown trout and a healthy amount of large Shasta Lake browns spawn in the McCloud, reaching upwards of 10 lbs. Open from the last Saturday in April thru Nov. 15th and fishing best when the spring hatches occur in May and June, this is a go to river. | ||||||||||||
